15,000 packs of cigarettes were confiscated at the northern border of Romania

October 26 this year action was carried out on the fight against cigarette smuggling in the area

Around 9.40, our guards stopped a Volkswagen car, registered in Romania. The car was driven by a 22-year-old Romanian citizen from Satu Mare County, and several bulky packages were discovered inside the means of transport.

The driver and the vehicle were taken to the STPF Satu Mare headquarters. Following checks of the vehicle, a quantity of 2,450 packages of non-Community origin was discovered in the trunk . Their value amounts to almost 28,700 lei.

Today, October 27 this year, at the level of the Brodina Border Police Sector, Suceava County, an action was launched to combat cigarette smuggling in that area of ​​responsibility.

Around 02.00, border police from the sector noticed a group of people transporting several bulky parcels from the state border to the interior of the country.

Immediately, our border police acted to detain the people, and when they noticed the officers, the perpetrators abandoned the packages and fled to Ukrainian territory.

In order to detain the smugglers, the border police fired several warning shots vertically, according to the legal provisions, but the people in question did not stop.

Immediately, the Ukrainian authorities were notified of the case for joint investigation of the border incident, which later reported that they had discovered seven cigarette boxes on Ukrainian territory.

25 packs packages of cigarettes were discovered , which were transported to the headquarters of the sector, where, following the inventory, resulted the quantity of 12,490  packs of cigarettes , from Duty Free origin.
