2.28 Million Packs of Smuggled Cigarettes Seized in Odessa

The Ukraine State Border Guard Service, together with its agencies, continues to take effective measures to combat the illicit movement of tobacco products with another large-scale international deal stopped in Odessa oblast. As a result, Belarusian tobacco products worth UAH 80,000,000 were detained.

The activities were carried out by the State Border Guard Service’s operational personnel together with representatives of the State Fiscal Service under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General.

In Odessa Commercial Sea Port, an interdepartmental group checked 4 containers in execution of the court order. They contained more than 4,500 boxes of cigarettes, which is more than 2.28 million packs. The cigarettes were planned to be moved by sea to European countries in violation of current international legislation. According to the accompanying documents, the cigarettes were transported in transit from Belarus.

The amount of estimated tobacco products seized by the State Fiscal Service exceeds UAH 80,000,000. Investigative actions are ongoing.
