Meeting of African Ambassadors of main countries of origin of African migrants in the Middle East and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)

African Experts drawn from major countries of origin of migrant workers in the Middle East and the Gulf Cooperating Countries met to share experiences on international labour migration cooperation mechanisms aimed at improving labour migration governance and explore avenues for policy dialogue with Middle East Countries. This meeting responds to the recommendations by stakeholders in labour migration governance in Africa, for a multilateral process, for enhanced protection of teeming number of migrant workers of African descent in the Middle East.

Human smuggler indicted on US charges and arrested as part of Brazilian takedown of significant alien smugglers

Extensive coordination and cooperation efforts between United States and Brazilian law enforcement authorities culminated in the Brazil Federal Police (DPF) conducting a significant enforcement operation to disrupt and dismantle a transnational alien smuggling organization, including the arrest on Brazilian charges of an alleged alien smuggler who has also been indicted in the United States. The alien smugglers targeted in this operation are alleged to be responsible for the illicit smuggling of scores of individuals from South Asia and elsewhere, into Brazil, and ultimately to the United States.

Using passenger data exchange systems to address risks posed by returning foreign terrorist fighters explored at OSCE-UNOCT Seminar

More than 170 experts from OSCE participating States and the Partners for Co-operation gathered in Vienna on 31 October and 1 November 2019 for the Third OSCE-wide Seminar on Passenger Data Exchange. Mediterranean Migrant Arrivals Reach 87,315 in 2019; Deaths Reach 1.087

IOM, the UN Migration Agency, reports that 87,315 migrants and refugees have entered Europe by sea through 30 October, a 12% decrease from the 99,122 arriving during the same period last year. Over half all arrivals this year (47,015) have landed in Greece, while another one-fourth (22,247) have landed in Spain, with the balance arriving in much smaller proportions to Italy, Malta and Cyprus. #migration #bordersecurity
