ABF charged two for alleged import of ‘ice’ valued at $3 million

Two men have been charged as part ongoing joint investigations into the alleged importation of ‘ice’ concealed in an air cargo consignment.

The consignment, having arrived in Sydney from the United States of America (USA), was selected for examination by officers from the Australian Border Force (ABF) who identified inconsistencies in the package.

During a subsequent deconstruction, the consignment was found to contain 4kg of an unknown substance concealed within a concrete block.

The contents were tested and returned a presumptive positive result for methylamphetamine (ice), which has an estimated potential street value of $3 million.

Joint inquiries were subsequently commenced by the Organised Crime Squad under Strike Force Mactier, together with officers from Australian Federal Police (AFP) and NSW Crime Commission (NSWCC).

As part of ongoing investigations, strike force detectives arrested two men – aged 19 and 23 – during a vehicle stop.

The younger man was allegedly found in possession of cocaine, before the men were both taken to Fairfield Police Station.

A short time later, detectives, with assistance from South West Metropolitan Regional Enforcement Squad (RES), executed a search warrant at a home at Greenfield Park.

During the search, officers located and seized a package containing an unknown white powder, cannabis and equipment consistent with the supply of prohibited drugs.

Officers also seized a ‘pistol-like’ pellet gun, cash and mobiles phones.

All items seized will be subject to further examination.
