Blow to criminal group involved in smuggling

Border Guard officers from the Nadodrzański SG Department, working with policemen from Żary, detained 6 people who were members of a criminal group involved in tobacco smuggling to Germany.

The group operated in the province of Lower Silesia. During the activities carried out last week, SG officers from the facility in Tuplice and the Police searched several places in Lower Silesia simultaneously. A total of 1029 packs of cigarettes and cash worth 400,000 were secured. in Polish currency and euro. Six men were detained in the case – all of them were residents of the Lower Silesian Voivodship.

Two suspects, aged 35 and 45, were charged with leading a multi-criminal group. The court granted the application of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Żary and imposed temporary detention on them.

Supervisors and property sureties were applied to other people.

As officers have determined, as a result of criminal proceedings that lasted from December 2018 to February 2020, losses of the Treasury due to unpaid customs, VAT and excise duty amounted to over PLN 4 million.

Participation in an organized criminal group intended to commit a crime is punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment, leading such a group is punishable by a penalty of up to 10 years. The case is of a developmental nature.
