Border policemen from the Coast Guard intercepted a boat suspected of illegal migration, on board of which there were more than 80 people.

On 19th August, border policemen on the MAI 0201 vessel, on a mission, detected a suspicious vessel in the Black Sea, approximately 28 nautical miles east of Vama Veche, at the maritime border, sailing from international waters towards the coast of Romania.

The boat had several people on board, being overloaded and without means of rescue. They sent help messages and immediately a SAR (Search and Rescue) action was triggered, providing support and assistance to the ship in danger.

As a result, the patrol vessel together with another fast boat, both from the Coast Guard, accompanied by an ARSVOM vessel escorted the suspect boat to Port Constanța.

From the first checks it emerged that there were approximately 80 people on board whose nationalities are to be determined.
