Border Guard Unit detained 11 foreigners for crossing the Polish-Lithuanian border

Over the past weekend, officers from the Podlasie Border Guard Unit detained 11 foreigners for crossing the Polish-Lithuanian border against the law. Three people who assisted in illegal border crossing were also detained.

Officers from the Border Guard Postin Augustów, they stopped a Renault Trafic bus with Polish registration numbers for inspection. In addition to the driver, a citizen of Ukraine, seven Iranian citizens traveled by car. It turned out that passengers (men aged 20-37) do not have documents authorizing them to enter and stay in Poland. They only had certificates of temporary stay in a center for foreigners in Lithuania with them.

For crossing the Polish-Lithuanian border against the regulations, the citizens of Iran were detained, then they were handed over to the Lithuanian side. The 33-year-old driver was charged with organizing the crossing of the state border against the regulations. The man voluntarily submitted to the sentence proposed by the prosecutor of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Sejny, consisting of 8 months of imprisonment with a conditional suspension of its execution for a probationary period of 2 years and a preventive measure in the form of a property bail in the amount of PLN 5,000. PLN. The other organizer, a Ukrainian citizen, was also detained, who was temporarily arrested for three months.

In a car detained for inspection, on the national road number 8, near the town of Milewo Zabielne, Border Guard officers revealed four Syrian citizens. The foreigners (a 36-year-old woman with three children) did not have any documents with them. It was established that they came to Poland from Lithuania, where they stayed in one of the local centers for foreigners. They were handed over to the Lithuanian services. The driver, a citizen of Ukraine, heard accusations of facilitating other people to illegally cross the border. He is facing a penalty of up to 5 years imprisonment.
