Cigarettes worth 350,000 lei confiscated at the border with Ukraine

Romanian border guards from the Border Police Sector  Valea Vişeului, Maramureș County, organized an actionfor combating cigarette smuggling in the area of ​​responsibility. Thus, around 07.00, the border policemen discovered, on a side street of the Petrova-Strâmtura communication, an abandoned car, on with Romanian registration plates. Inside it could be seen several packages wrapped in black foil, similar to packages with cigarettes. Subsequently, the car was transported to the SPF Valea Vişeului headquarters. Following the checks performed, our colleagues found that the registration number applied to the car actually belongs to another car. Inside, the quantity of 14,829 packs of cigarettes from duty-free shops was discovered, worth 173,500 lei. The car, worth about 10,000 lei, was detained for further research. The amount of cigarettes was also seized.

In this case, investigations are being carried out under the aspect of committing the offenses of smuggling and putting into circulation or driving on public roads a car with a false registration number. within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Vişeu de Sus Court, and the necessary legal measures will be taken at the end.

Also on Saturday, November 20 this year, the border guards from the Brodina Border Police Sector  , Suceava County, discovered a significant amount of cigarette packs inside a car . Thus, around 05.30, the border policemen heard, near the institution’s headquarters, the noise produced by the speeding of a car. Immediately, our colleagues proceeded to check the area, and on a nearby bridge they found, abandoned, a car left with a wheel suspended on the bridge. The car had license plates with Romanian license plates. Inside it could be seen several packages wrapped in black foil.

The car was transported to the SPF Brodina headquarters, and following the checks performed, our colleagues found that the registration number applied on the car belongs, in fact, to another car. And according to the chassis series of the body, the car is listed as being removed from circulation by the German authorities. Inside the car was discovered the quantity of 11,980 packs of cigarettes from duty-free shops, worth 140,166 lei. The car, worth about 5,000 lei, was detained in order to continue the research. The amount of cigarettes was also seized.

In this case, investigations are being carried out in terms of committing the offenses of smuggling and driving on public roads a car with a false registration number. .

On November 18 this year, the border police officers from the Sarasău Border Police Sector , Maramureș County, carried out an action to combat cigarette smuggling in the area of ​​responsibility. Thus, around 11.30 pm, the border guards discovered, near the state border with Ukraine, in the direction of the border locality Remeţi, Maramureș County, four bulky packages, similar to cigarette packages.

At the institution’s headquarters, following the inventory of the boxes with discovered cigarettes, it was found that they contain 3,000 packs of cigarettes , of Duty-Free origin, worth approximately 35,100 lei. In the case, investigations are being carried out under the aspect of committing the crime of smuggling , the entire quantity of cigarettes being seized for confiscation.
