Ecstasy and Psilocybin Mushrooms Discovered in Vehicle at the Port of Champlain

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Champlain seized multiple narcotics from a traveler returning to the United States.

On Wednesday, CBP officers encountered a passenger vehicle occupied by a 30-year-old female and 30-year-old male, both U. S. citizens, who were returning home from a trip to Canada. The vehicle was referred to the secondary inspection area for further examination.

A subsequent physical inspection of the vehicle discovered various narcotics, that included ecstasy, marijuana, and psilocybin mushrooms in raw form and infused in a chocolate bar. The narcotic substances field tested positive for the presence of methylenedioxymethamphetamine, marijuana and psilocybin.

“Our CBP Officers continue to remain dedicated and vigilant, successfully intercepting these illegal substances,” said Champlain Port Director Steven Bronson. “I am proud of their enforcement efforts to ensure the safety of our communities.”

The 30-year-old female driver claimed ownership of the narcotics, was taken into custody, and processed by CBP officers. After processing, the traveler and narcotics were turned over to the New York State Police to face charges for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree.
