The Director General of the Police, Francisco Pardo, took part today in Nouakchott (Mauritania) in the presentation ceremony of the EU POC-Mauritania project, a project to fight effectively against human trafficking and migrant smuggling. Four members of the National Police are going to work together with the Mauritanian National Police and the Directorate of the Air and Border Police to, as Francisco Pardo stressed, “together we can face the great challenges posed by international crime ”.

The experience that begins today in Nouakchott is not new for the Spanish National Police. Since November 2008, it has been working together with Mauritania, making an excellent one in Nouadhibou within the framework of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), an example of international police cooperation made up of six Mauritanian police officers and six Spanish agents.

Both ECIs and POCs work in the field and collaborate with local investigators, providing organisational, strategic and operational aspects in the fight against migrant smuggling and human trafficking. As the director of the Police has recalled, “the current threats to security have a global dimension and cannot be provided from an exclusively national perspective”. In this sense, he highlighted the great work carried out by these Joint Investigation Teams that “has allowed us to dismantle numerous criminal organizations dedicated to human trafficking and migrant smuggling, and also to obtain information of an operational and strategic nature of great importance. relevance”.
