First insight from the Frontex Research Study on sensors used in deployable technologies for border surveillance

Last year Frontex began conducting a market research study on sensors used in deployable technologies for border surveillance. The main aim of the ongoing study is to update information on sensors used in deployable technologies employed in border surveillance.

The research study is expected to produce an analysis of existing sensor equipment that is either currently used or could potentially be used for the detection of elements of interest in border surveillance systems and also expand the scope of the initial endeavour, covering not just land border surveillance systems but the entire spectrum (i.e., land, air, sea).

The work is divided into several reports providing a review of the current state of the technology, sensor specifications, and foreseen evolution of the market, along with an overview of sensors used in border surveillance and the methodology employed for the technical evaluation of such sensors.

Frontex will regularly publish insights about the progress of this ongoing research endeavour.
