French citizen, investigated for trafficking in migrants in pre-trial detention

Romanian border police officers in cooperation with colleagues from the Territorial Service of the Satu Mare Border Police, carried out an action to combat illegal migration in the area of competence.

Border Guards stopped a car registered in France, driven by a French citizen, as well as a group of eight foreign nationals.

As the persons concerned did not justify their presence in the border area, it was decided to take them to the institution’s premises in order to continue the investigation.

Preliminary checks established that the 28-year-old driver was the guide of the eight citizens of Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan, aged between 17 and 35.

Thus, the French citizen intended to help those concerned to cross the border into Hungary illegally, with the intention of reaching Germany.
