General Rustama Liubajev, Commander of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (SBGS), has been elected a member of the Executive Board of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency FRONTEX.
The Executive Board, composed of three senior officials in addition to Liubayev, is responsible for assisting the Management Board in setting agendas for meetings, analyzing long-term strategies for the Agency’s activities, conducting annual analyzes, making proposals to the FRONTEX Director and the Management Board on improving governance.
The members of the Executive Board shall be elected for a term of one year.
The SBGS has been actively cooperating with FRONTEX and has been supporting its activities since the establishment of the Agency in 2004. Lithuanian border guards participate in many FRONTEX-coordinated international operations and training of officials.
