Georgia and US Enhance Maritime Cooperation

The Border Police Coast Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is hosting the USS Porter (DDG 78) in the territorial waters off Georgia. The visit serves to strengthen maritime cooperation between the United States and Georgia.

The visit of USS Porter to Georgia is carried out in full compliance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the National Center for Disease Control.

USS Porter is involved in a variety of missions in the area of ​​operations of the Sixth Fleet of the United States. The USS Porter supports the protection of maritime security in the Black Sea region and the support of NATO operations and missions in Europe.

Prior to the USS Porter’s arrival in the Georgian port, the Coast Guard and the United States Navy conducted joint exercises in the Black Sea.

The training was attended by two ships of the Island Class of the Coast Guard Department of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – “Dioscuri” and “Ochamchire” and 2 ships of the US 6th Fleet: USS Porter (DDG 78) and USS Oak Hill (LSD 51). The purpose of the exercises is to increase the level of interaction and interoperability of the naval units of Georgia and the USSR. Joint exercises did not involve direct contact of crews.

The visit of American ships to Georgia once again confirms the active cooperation in the field of maritime relations between the United States and Georgia.
