Guide detained for migrant trafficking. Seventeen Syrians were to be helped to cross the border illegally

Border policemen from the Territorial Inspectorate of the Timişoara Border Police found, in a van driven by a Serbian citizen, 17 Syrian citizens who tried to cross the border illegally. The driver, investigated for the crime of trafficking in migrants, was detained for 24 hours, and will be presented to the court with a proposal for pre-trial detention. Colleagues from the Long Border Police Sector also found four people from Palestine and Syria, while trying to fraudulently cross the border from Serbia to Romania.

Border policemen from the Territorial Inspectorate of the Timişoara Border Police carried out a specific action on the line of combating illegal migration in the area of ​​competence.

Thus, our colleagues stopped at the exit from Giarmata, towards the A1 highway, a VW Transporter van, driven by a 42-year-old Serbian citizen, in which there were 17 foreign citizens.

Considering the fact that they did not justify their presence in the area, the persons in question, 11 men, three women and three minors, but also the driver of the minibus, were taken to the Territorial Inspectorate of the Timișoara Border Police for investigations.

During the preliminary checks, the persons concerned stated that they were Syrian citizens, minors between one and six years of age and adults between 20 and 48 years of age. The driver of the van declared that he would receive the amount of 100 euros from each one, after leaving them near the border with Hungary, the final destination of the migrants being Western European countries.

In this case, the border guards are conducting investigations, under the coordination of the prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Timiş Tribunal, under the aspect of committing the crime of fraudulent crossing of the state border for the 17 Syrian citizens. Also, the Serbian citizen is being investigated for the crime of migrant trafficking, he being detained for 24 hours, and will be presented to the court with a proposal for pre-trial detention.

Border guards from the Lunga Border Police Sector, Timiş County, also carried out a specific action to combat illegal migration, following which they found, in the direction of the border town Teremia Mică, a group of four people moving from the border with Serbia to the interior of the country.

As the persons in question did not justify their presence in the area, they were taken to the Border Police headquarters for investigation.

Preliminary checks established that the men in question were from Palestine and Syria, two men, a woman and a minor, adults aged between 25 and 28, and the minor 2 years old. As the woman is pregnant and has been ill, she was taken to hospital for medical treatment, and her health is currently stable.

The people said they tried to cross the border from Serbia to Romania illegally with the intention of reaching Western European countries.
