Recently, the Ignalina district has become a place where migrants crossing the border illegally from Belarus mostly try to travel. During the last two weeks, SBGS officers have detained as many as 12 such groups of aliens at the border within the district, a total of 138 persons.

A total of 439 illegal migrants from Belarus tried to enter Lithuania this year. Most of them are Iraqi citizens. That number is one and a half times higher than it was in all of 2020.
