Lithuanian Border Guards Detained Cocaine and Amphetamines for 6-7 Million Euros

Pagėgiai border guards seized 70 kilograms of drugs, the value of which on the black market can reach 6-7 million. euros. Three people were also detained and released by the court for two months.

 Officials of the Criminal Intelligence Division of the Pagėgiai Border Guard Team of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS), Pagėgiai Team of the Special Purpose Division and Byninai border guard cynologist with German Shepherd Aru inspected a Volvo V50 in a parking lot near a house in Jurbarkas on Thursday.In the former sports bag, the border guards found 20 packets of powder, possibly drugs. 

Next to the car, the border guards detained a 58-year-old resident of Jurbarkas and a 50-year-old resident of Klaipeda in another Citroen C4 Picaso car.In the course of further procedural actions, SBGS officials conducted a search in Klaipėda. In the apartment of a 50-year-old Klaipeda acquaintance, 8600 euros in cash was found and taken. Other acquaintances of the detained Klaipėda resident, 54-year-old Klaipėda residents, found 51 packages with powder, possibly drugs, as well as 2,500 euros in cash and possibly forged driver’s licenses during the search.The border guards also carried out a search of a 58-year-old man detained in Jurbarkas, where they found and took other items relevant to the investigation.

SBGS officials seized a total of 71 packages (about 70 kilograms) with possible drugs and 11,100 euros in cash.A pre-trial investigation has been initiated into the Pagėgiai border team due to the illegal disposal of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances for the purpose of their distribution or the illegal disposal of a very large amount of narcotic or psychotropic substances.3 persons were detained and remanded in custody for 2 months by a court. Cars and drugs were delivered to Pagėgiai border team. 

Examination of the drug revealed that it was amphetamine and cocaine. On the black market, the preliminary price of 1 gram of cocaine is about 100 euros, and the price of 1 gram of amphetamine is about 20 euros. Thus, the total value of drugs can reach 5,680,000 – 7,100,000 million. euros.Detainees face between ten and fifteen years in prison. The pre-trial investigation is led by prosecutors from the Marijampolė District Prosecutor’s Office.
