More than 10,400 packs of smuggled cigarettes discovered by border police in Midia Port

The border guards from the Coast Guard, under the coordination of the prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Constanta Court of Appeal, discovered in Midia Port, over 10,400 packs of contraband cigarettes, valued at approximately 143,000 lei (US$33,000).

A border policeman from the Coast Guard, in the exercise of his duties, found in the area of ​​the Access Gate no. 2 of the Port of Midia, a car registered in Romania, at the wheel of which was the Romanian citizen.

Following the control, inside the car, the quantity of 3,000 packs of contraband cigarettes were discovered.

Following the investigations, the border policemen, under the coordination of the prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Constanța Court of Appeal, carried out an over-control on board a ship, Panama flag, docked in the Midia Shipyard. Following the control on board the ship, another 7,450 packs of contraband cigarettes were discovered.

When the goods were inventoried, the total amount of 10,450 packs of cigarettes, amounting to approximately 143,000 lei, resulted, which was seized for confiscation.

A Romanian citizen and two Syrian citizens, members of the ship’s crew, are being investigated in order to commit the crime of smuggling , and the necessary legal measures will be ordered.
