More than 1,300 kilos of cocaine seized in less than a week

As part of the activity to combat international drug trafficking, the Guardia di Finanza oand the anti-fraud officials of the ADM Office in just under a week, identified and seized, in three separate operations, over 1300 kilos of pure cocaine in the Calabrian port.

Through a complex and articulated activity of risk analysis and factual checks on containers from the South American continent, the Military of the Guardia di Finanza and Customs Officers, with the aid of sophisticated scanners supplied to the Customs and Monopoly Agency, managed to locate the drug cleverly hidden in three containers loaded with coffee, frozen meat and exotic fruit, the first two from Brazil and the third from Ecuador.

The seized drug, of very pure quality, could have been cut by drug traffickers up to 4 times before being placed on the market, yielding an income to the ‘Ndrangheta of about 260 million euros. The ways of concealing the drug often prove to be different and always evolving, forcing investigators to refine the operating methodologies from time to time.

The activity testifies to the constant effective action put in place by the Guardia di Finanza of Reggio Calabria and the ADM Office of Gioia Tauro for the fight against international drug trafficking – with particular regard to the port of Gioia Tauro.
