Polish border guards foil people smuggling attempt

A Polish Border Guard Unit detained two smugglers during road checks who were helping three illegal migrants from Afghanistan and Pakistan to reach Germany. The “couriers” were immediately expelled from our country, in addition to suspended prison sentences.

On April 2, border guards from Zielona Góra, supported by officers from the branch headquarters, conducted a road check of a Ford passenger car driven by a 29-year-old Ukrainian. As a result of the conversation with the foreigner, it turned out that he was traveling with an Afghan, who was stopped a moment later by a Border Guard patrol while trying to illegally cross the Polish-German border. The Afghan did not have identity documents or documents entitling him to stay in Poland. For attempting to cross the border in violation of the regulations, the court imposed a suspended sentence of 10 months of imprisonment on the Afghan citizen. In addition, administrative proceedings were initiated against him regarding the obligation to return. Until the end of this procedure, the foreigner was placed under the supervision of the Border Guard.

On the same day, thanks to a joint action by border guards from Zielona Góra, Tuplice and the division headquarters, a 37-year-old Ukrainian citizen was detained in a Skoda passenger car, along with two passengers, right at the border. The woman also helped Pakistani citizens attempt to illegally cross the border with Germany.
The detained Pakistanis did not have the required documents for staying in our country. The court imposed a suspended sentence of 10 months of imprisonment on the Pakistani citizens for attempting to cross the border against the regulations. They were also ordered to return. Until the proceedings are concluded, the Pakistanis were placed in a guarded center for foreigners.

The evidence gathered indicates that the couriers knowingly helped the Afghan and Pakistanis to cross the border illegally, for which they were detained . In addition to presenting criminal sanctions – 12 months of imprisonment suspended for 3 years, they were issued decisions obliging them to return immediately. The decisions also ruled on a five-year ban on re-entry to the Schengen area. As a result, the smugglers were taken to the border with Ukraine, where they were handed over to the local services.
