Polish Border Guards Seize Over 4 tons of Illegal Tobacco

Over 4 tons of illegal tobacco, with an estimated value of almost PLN 2 million, were intercepted by officers from the Sea Border Guard Unit near Słupsk.

The goods were stored in utility rooms, where also the production of cut tobacco took place. Two residents of the Pomorskie and Zachodniopomorskie voivodships were arrested during the operations.

Officers detained the 27-year-old and his three-year-old companion while they were unloading a Fiat delivery truck. The rest of the goods, including the cut tobacco, were stored in utility rooms on one of the properties near Słupsk. Officers also revealed a tobacco cutting machine there. In total, over 4 tonnes of tobacco were secured without excise stamps. Its value is estimated at nearly PLN 2 million. After carrying out procedural steps, both men were released. Further proceedings will be conducted under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Słupsk.

The storage and transport of excise goods without tax stamps is subject to a fine or 3 years imprisonment or both.
