Results of a Bulgarian police operation to counter commodity smuggling

A specialized police operation to counteract the smuggling of goods and excise goods was conducted yesterday at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint. The joint actions were undertaken by police officers from the Svilengrad Regional Hospital, customs officers from TD-Burgas, employees of the National Revenue Agency and the Automobile Administration. 

During the action, 37 buses, 6 trucks with trailers and semi-trailers, 40 cars, as well as pedestrians were inspected. A total of 3,870 items marked with logos and inscriptions of protected trademarks were seized from 13 buses without the permission of the right holder. The goods – textiles, perfumes, shoes and bags, were seized with receipts. 

During the inspections, 16,800 excise-free cigarettes and 8 kg of hookah tobacco were found in the passengers’ luggage. A large quantity of undeclared excise-free cigarettes was found during an inspection of a tractor with Turkish registration. Undeclared 929,200 cigarettes, 29,200 cigars and 18,000 cigars without excise labels were seized. 750 kg of meat, 140 kg of food and 70 kg of dairy products were confiscated, all banned for import. 7 acts were drawn up by the customs officers, 12 receipts for seized goods under the Trademarks and Geographical Indications Act and 32 receipts for seized other goods.
