The Swedish Coast Guard strengthens the police’s border controls in Stockholm’s ports

Until 31 March, the Coast Guard and the Swedish Customs will assist the Police Authority in checking people to see if they have the right to travel into the country. The Coast Guard strengthens the police’s control activities in the Stockholm Region.

The Coast Guard has an independent responsibility for border control at Sweden’s sea border and has strengthened surveillance at sea due to the temporary entry ban.

As the Police Authority has a strained staff situation when it comes to border controls, the Coast Guard also helps to control people traveling into Sweden via Stockholm’s ports. The Coast Guard’s inspections are carried out provided that they do not violate the authority’s commitments regarding environmental and maritime rescue.

– We at the Coast Guard have a natural presence in Stockholm’s ports in the form of cargo security and dangerous goods controls. When we now strengthen the Police Authority’s border controls together with the Swedish Customs, we continue to build on the good cooperation that already exists between the authorities today, says Fredrik Hallerström, section manager at the Coast Guard’s operational department.
