Twelve Syrian people hid in van discovered by Romanian Border Police
Arad border police found twelve people from Syria in a van driven by a Syrian citizen, whom the driver intended to help them cross the border into Hungary illegally.
The border police officers from the Curtici Border Police Sector, Arad County, carried out an action to combat illegal migration in the area of competence. Thus the border police stopped for control, on the Arad – Sanmartin communication, approximately 1 km from the border line, a Peugeot Boxer van, driven by a 46-year-old Syrian citizen, owner of a residence permit issued by the Romanian authorities.
After checking the vehicle, twelve people were discovered inside the cargo compartment – three minors and nine adults. The twelve people, together with the driver, were taken to the headquarters of the sector, in order to continue the investigations.
It was established that the twelve are citizens of Syria, the adults are between 24 and 36 years old, and the three minors between 4 and 17 years old. The driver intended to help them cross the border illegally into Hungary to reach Western European countries.
In this case, the border guards are conducting investigations under the coordination of a prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Arad Tribunal regarding the commission of the crime of fraudulent crossing of the state border for the twelve Syrian citizens.
Also, the driver of the van is being investigated for committing the crime of migrant trafficking, and the required legal measures will be taken upon completion.
