Ukraine Border Guards Detain Group of Illegal Immigrants in Port of Chernomorsk

Operatives of Ukraine’s Odesa Border Guard Detachment have detected and detained a group of illegal migrants planning to enter one of the EU countries.

Law enforcement officers had prior information about the possible movement of a group of people in the truck travelling by ferry Karas (Turkey) – Chernomorsk.

As soon as the vehicle arrived to take border control measures, borderguards had removed the truck for an in-depth inspection because of the risk factors and available operational data.

As a result of the inspection, law enforcement officers have found 13 illegal migrants in the cargo. The foreigners did not have any documents proving their identity. According to the detainees, seven of them were Iraqi citizens, five of them were Syrian citizens and one of them was a Turkish citizen. It was found out later that illegal migrants tried to enter the EU in this way, namely Germany. While talking to “stowaways”, border guards got to know that the men paid a monetary reward for such an extreme trip.

So, the truck drivers and two Turkish citizens transporting 13 foreigners, have been declared suspected of committing a criminal offense under Art. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and the migrants will be brought to justice under Art. 204-1 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.

Further procedural actions are carried out by the Investigative Department of the Black Sea Police Department of Ovidiopol Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast under the procedural guidance of the Illichivsk Local Prosecutor’s Office in Odesa Oblast.
