Ukrainian border guards prevented smugglers from transporting tobacco products worth almost 22,225 euros into EU.

The other day, border guards from the Seliatyn BG division prevented smugglers from transporting tobacco products worth almost 750,000 hryvnias to EU countries.

Preliminary information on a possible offense was provided to colleagues by internal and personal security officers of the Chernivtsi BG detachment.

A group of unknown individuals with stretchers on their shoulders were found a few kilometres from the border with Romania. The smugglers did not even react to the warning shots, left the packages and tried to escape.

Border guards found almost 16,000 packs of tobacco products in improvised backpacks, including those without excise duty stamps of Ukraine.

Measures are being taken to establish the number of persons involved in the attempt to smuggle cigarettes across the border. The revealed cigarettes will be handed over to the Bukovynian customs officers in the near future.
